18 teams compete in 14th Annual Kamloops Adult Spelling Bee

KAMLOOPS – On Monday morning (May 12), Literacy in Kamloops hosted its 14th Annual Adult Team Spelling Bee. This was a kickoff event for the Raise a Reader campaign while also being a reminder about the importance of literacy in people’s lives.

Eighteen local businesses, service clubs and organizations from around the community gathered in teams of eight to test their scholarly knowledge. There were three rounds with teams having to spell words like ‘subtlety,’ ‘titillate’ and ‘susceptible.’ The spelling cards were then given to judges who tallied the scores.

Money raised from the spelling bee goes toward literacy programs for all ages around the city. There is also a competitive aspect between the teams to take home the winner’s plaque.
