KAMLOOPS — Kamloops residents are being encouraged to sign up for the annual ParticipACTION Community Challenge, which runs through the month of June.

In a statement, the City says will be competing for the $100,000 grand prize, which will be awared to Canada’s Most Active Community.

“The national initiative encourages Canadians to get active and build stronger, healthier communities,” the City said, in a statement, noting it will use the money to support local physical activity and sport initiative.

“The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is not just about physical activity. It’s about coming together to experience the physical, social, and mental benefits of being active.”

Interested people, organizations, and associations can register on the ParticipACTION website. While people don’t need to track their physical activity, the City says by registering, people are “committing to being active.”

“Every move counts – from walking the dog to gardening to playing with the kids. The more people who register, the greater the chance we have to win,” the City added.

Kamloops residents can try out a number of free events that will be offered by a variety of local organizations in the month of June. Events include rowing, tumbling, laser biathlon, line dancing, and wheelchair basketball.

“The goal is to encourage individuals to try a new activity, discover what could be a new passion, and make new friends,” the City statement added.
